Tanning is considered generally safe for all people. Depending on your skin type, you may fall under a group that is considered high-risk for contracting skin cancer. If you burn very easily within a short time under the sun, chances are, you have very sensitive fair skin. In order to prevent you from getting burned further, a self-tanning lotion is the best option for you to get a tan without getting severe sunburn. Using one that has sun protection (at least SPF 15 and higher) is advisable to protect the skin from wrinkles and skin cancer.
To make a tanning bed lotion work for your skin, make sure you prepare before going outdoors or hitting the beach. Gentle exfoliation will help remove dry and dead skin cells. To do this, run soft natural brush bristles all over your body before showering to slough off dead cells on the topmost layer of your skin. After this, you may shower and clean your skin using only gentle soap. Scrub your body with a quarter cup of baking soda to leave your skin smooth afterwards. Use this scrub on your face as well but avoid the eye area. Remember that it is always a must to moisturize the skin before using any tanning products. Take your moisturizer and sunscreen and slather generously on your skin. Once you are ready to go outside and swim or play water sports, you may use a water proof tanning lotion. Do not forget to reapply such for continuous protection from the sun’s harmful rays. Since you have fair and sensitive skin, you will need to tan gradually in order to prevent your skin from burning. In selecting a sunscreen, choose one that has plant extracts and essential oils like chamomile and lavender to soothe your skin. Do not use sunscreens with petroleum byproducts or mineral oil.
To produce an even overall tan, use a facial tanning bed lotion for your face and do not use the one designed for your body. Facial tanning lotions are made for the thinner and more sensitive skin on your face. Using the incorrect lotion will not only ruin your tan but will also cause skin damage; so, make sure that you are using the right tanning product for you. Some are made for tanning beds only, so do not confuse the outdoor and indoor tanning products. Indoor products have no sun protection and will not protect you from sunburn when you go outdoors.
